Our data centres are located in buildings specifically designed to house computer equipment safely and securely. These are situated so that there is no impending threat from floods or other types of natural disaster. They are also located slightly away from densely populated areas. The locations are specially secured against vandalism and intrusion. For customers opting for an extra degree of physical security, our location in an underground facility some distance outside Stockholm can provide a good alternative. Recent advances in the computing hardware located in data centres create enormous demands for power, cooling and ventilation. Basefarm's data centres are therefore equipped with powerful water conduits for cooling, ventilation systems for removal of dust and moisture, as well as large uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). In addition, they have one or more diesel units that will serve in the event of a major power outage. Development is rapidly moving towards smaller and more power consuming components, which generate much more heat in much less space. This means that a data centre designed only a few years ago cannot provide enough power and cooling to serve more than a small part of the room filled with today’s servers.
